Dr. Leo Hwang is the Assistant Academic Dean for the College of Natural Sciences. The college has over 7000 undergraduate students and 26 majors or certificate programs.
Diversity Equity and Inclusion
Dr. Hwang is particularly interested in using asset based community development as a model for enhancing how we engage in diversity, equity, and inclusion work and exploring how to connect anti-racism work and dismantling the culture of white supremacy with the Community Economies theoretical stances. He is also developing adaptations of using participatory action research methodologies to give agency to students and community members who are engaged in co-creating the world we wish to inhabit.
Creative Economy
He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts in Geosciences with a focus on utilizing participatory action research to better understand the diverse community economies of artists and artisans in Franklin County, an M.F.A. in fiction writing from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and his B.A. in English and Fine Arts from the University of the South.
